Project Overview
EdSteps invites teachers, students and adults of all ages to help us to transform education and assessment through the power of real student work.
Phase One
In Phase One of the initiative, EdSteps invited teachers, students and adults of all professions to register with EdSteps and upload samples of their work in Writing and Global Competence.
EdSteps will continue to accept writing samples, however the innovative rating process is now complete in all skill areas.  
Phase Two
In Phase Two, EdSteps asked teachers, students and adults of all professions to read and evaluate the sample student work. The work was presented to raters two pieces at a time. Raters were then asked to choose which one of the two pieces best demonstrates mastery of a skill. Raters then be briefly described why and on what criteria they made their choice. Phase Three
In 2012 EdSteps released the world's first writing continuum- a gradual progression - from emerging to accomplished work samples. This continuum is freely available online through the EdSteps website for teachers, students and their families to use in helping to assess their progress and develop strategies for growth in key skill areas. All resources shared through EdSteps.org will be free to the public.
